Symptoms & Risk of Covid-19

Countries all around the world are putting a lot of efforts in order to deal with the new corona virus cases that has killed hundreds of thousands of people.

The Symptoms

According to the World Health Organization, signs of infection include fever, cough, shortness of breath and difficulty breathing. Other signs include loss of taste or smell and muscle aches. In more severe cases, it can cause pneumonia, multiple organ failure and even death. The current estimate of the incubation period (the time from infection to onset of symptoms) is 1 to 14 days. Most infected people will develop symptoms within five to six days. However, infected patients may also be asymptomatic, which means that despite the virus in their system, they are not showing up any symptoms.

Origin of the Case

Chinese health authorities are still working to determine the source of the virus. They say the virus may have come from the seafood market in Wuhan, China, where wild animals and plants are also illegally traded. On February 7, Chinese researchers stated that the virus may have spread from infected animal species to humans through the illegally trafficked pangolin virus, which is highly regarded in Asia for its food and medicine. Scientists point out that bats or snakes are possible sources of the virus.
